Who Is Archery For?

One of the joys of archery is that it is for everyone, that is everyone who wants to try. Men, women and children are able to shoot side by side, making it a true family or activity. Whether you wish to shoot as an individual, as a couple or as a family, all ages are welcomed into the sport.

Now you may be thinking "I am not good enough" or "I am not strong enough". With the technological developments that have been made in modern day equipment, it is now possible to shoot further than ever, with the minimum use of effort.

If you don't wish to get caught up in all these technological advances and would just prefer to experience archery as so many men and women did at the turn of the century, then you don't need to look far. Longbow archery is still very common and growing in popularity all the time.

For beginners in the sport there is no need to be disheartened with the thoughts that you will not win anything. With the handicap schemes, and varied distances that can be shot, even the most novice of archers has every chance of winning in a club competition. Finally, don't think that archery is all sport and no play, it is a very sociable sport where someone can easily make new friends. Within our club we also have a number of extra social events throughout the year including skittles evenings and we have be seen to try our hand at line dancing.

Archery is an exciting and unusual sport, with the challenge being how ever far you wish to take yourself. It can be just hitting the target, improving on a personal best, winning a club competition, claiming a new club record, to shooting for your county and even representing your country.

The sport is an ideal hobby for any person who wants to get into the open outdoors (well during the dry seasons). You can shoot as an individual, or with a group of archers in a team. The sport is one with such great flexibility that it can be adapted to meet the needs of all its followers.
